Astoria World Manor added 2 new photos — with Jeury Espinal.

July Employee of the Month: Jeury. (not Jerry)

Congratulations to Jeury on being our employee of the month.

Many people here acknowledge that Jeury is a hard and dedicated waiter. He jokes around with the customers and makes them feel comfortable. Yet he maintains a level of professionalism that makes people recognize his contributions.

This combination led to a particular day that Jeury displayed both of these skills. He had a table in the back of the room. One couple at the table was looking at everything in tremendous detail. They were planning their wedding for the following year. They were thinking about Astoria World Manor. But they wanted to experience everything for themselves before making their final decision.

Jeury had no knowledge of this. All he knew was that the customers kept asking him questions throughout the party.
"What is your favorite dish from the buffet?"
"I love the seafood paella. It reminds me of my mother." replied Jeury.
"Your mother makes it for you?" They asked.
"No, that's why. It reminds me that my mother never made it for me." (not a great joke, but I didn't say he was a comedian)
The couple laughed and was immediately put at ease.

Later, the couple realized that in their distraction, they forgot their envelope with their gift. They panicked and asked if we sold cards (we don't). Jeury said to give him a minute. He ran down to the office and returned within minutes with an envelope, pen, and a blank sheet of paper. He also found some rose petals dried up in the office to try embellish it. They quickly filled out their card and dropped it into the envelope box.

At the end of the night, Jeury was exhausted. The party was winding down. It turns out that the couple went down to the office on their own. They got a blank sheet of paper and wrote Jeury a quick note.

"Thank you for your humor, your hustle, and your dedication to us. We were not sure we were going to book our party until we encountered your wonderful and attentive service." They also included $100. Jeury was thrilled. He went home with his chest puffed out and his mind at ease. He knew he had done his job well. He knew he had the money to take his mother out for her birthday. And he knew that this glow was not something he could get if he was working at Foot Locker.

Sure enough, the couple was there the first thing in the morning to sign a contract and to let us know that their experience last night was wonderful, and Jeury was the clincher.
